What is Dry Brushing?
Dry Brushing is the act of taking a brush and literally brushing the skin in such a way the supports lymphatic drainage.
Why Do I need to Dry Brush?
I recommend Dry Brushing to clients who are trying to detox and lose weight, clients who have cellulite (stagnant fat cells), and really anyone who isn’t under the care of a medical provider for something else. Dry Brushing is a good way to promote movement in the lymphatic system. The lymphatic system is the system that helps our body to detox and eliminate harmful pathogens.
How Do I Dry Brush?
Dry Brushing is simple! Literally you use a natural bristle brush and you make long strokes on your skin starting at your feet heading towards your heart. Start at your feet and work up your legs, when you get to your abdomen use round circular motions still in an upward motion. You want to always make sure that you are brushing towards your heart. So when you do your arms, start at your fingertips and brush up your arm towards your shoulders. Dry brushing is best done before a shower. I like to brush in the shower so any dead skin cells aren’t falling on the floor. After you dry brush, use a gentle and clean body wash, followed by a clean moisturizer.
What Do I Need To Dry Brush?
- A Natural Bristle Brush (I Like this one as it comes with a handle, a smaller face brush, and a few extra goodies, all for Under $20)
What is Wet Brushing? (Exfoliating)
Well Wet Brushing is the same concept but it is often done in the shower with a hand mit or a more dense brush. It can even include a salt or sugar scrub
Why do I need to Wet Brush?
Wet Brushing is great for people who have a lot of dead skin buildup, and can also help to detoxify pores and get the lymphatic system moving. I recommend wet brushing to almost everyone, but keep in mind that if you have skin conditions such as eczema or psoriasis, any type of brushing can worsen a flare up.
If you get ingrown hairs often or have Keratosis pilaris wet brush exfoliation is great for you! It is also great when used before shaving!
How do I Wet Brush?
Wet Brushing is pretty simple as well, while you are in the shower, simple use a brush or hand mitt to brush the skin in circles. The harder you press the more exfoliation you will get.
What do I need to Wet Brush?
- Korean Exfoliating Mitt (These Are Great, they are cheap $ which is a plus! I learned about this after visiting a Korean Spa)
- Clean Salt or Sugar Scrub or BOTH

Whichever Brushing you decide to try, remember to read your body, if your skin reacts to the type of brushing you are doing try being a little ore gentle, or letting days pass between brushing. I hope you enjoy the results! HAPPY BRUSHING!
